New York is a great city. i know everyone says so, but it is true! The city is vibrant, energetic and fascinating. There is just about everything you could want or need right there in that city! When we visit New York City we choose hotels New York USA and look for a mid town location. Mid town works best for us because in the evening we like to take in a Broadway play or the Opera or a classical music performance. Mid town is a good location to be close to all this and from mid town it isn’t difficult to get to lower Manhattan or up town either.

Lower Manhattan is full of fun and interesting neighborhoods, this is the oldest part of the city. Ethnic, arts and various cultural neighborhoods await your exploration and with easy access by public transportation by bus or subway there is no excuse not to take a trip down. In nice weather there are a lot of place where eating out doors is possible. I love a meal and people watching combination and can find that without effort along the streets of lower Manhattan. For shopping, local art, people watching and seeing some of the cities historic side lower Manhattan is the place.

We generally head up town when we are looking for a day at the museums. With the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Frick Collection and the Guggenheim Museums all just about next to each other it makes for an day of museum going unparalleled in the world. Someone could spend a week alone in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. With hundreds of galleries and thousands of works on display it is a challenge to figure out what to see first. It always seems that heading to the right off the main rotunda is the way we go, into the Egyptian collection. There is enough in that part alone to keep a person looking all day!

What ever your looking to do there is easy access to what you want to see in New York City from mid town.

During the 20th Century, the United States was shifting ideas on cultural and moral issues, and this is exemplified by the city of New York USA, hotel and tourism businesses, the arts, the community and the Mayor of NYC in the 1920′s. James J. Walker. Walker was elected mayor in 1925, after spending the first half of the decade as a Democratic senator. This was a time in American History of easy ideas of virtue, money and vice. Walker was the personification of attitudes of rebellion during the era, attitudes that went against the restrictions placed upon society and culture. The ban on the sale of alcohol had begun with the Volstead Act of 1919, and although it was illegal to sell it, it was not illegal to consume it. The nightclubs had been providing release and social interaction, and the US government professed that this was immoral and was looking to discourage the newest craze, nightclubbing, in New York City. For at no other time in US history had there been such a concentration of clubs, than on 42nd Street, in New York City.

Walker, like other city mayors such as the Daley’s of Chicago today, tended to look the other way when their cities are thriving, even if it be through means not necessarily legal. When Walker became the mayor of the city, more than thirty-two thousand ‘speakeasies’ were in operation. This was a booming industry in the city, and Walker looked the other way, at the same time pushing legislation through which made him the endearment of the working class, the legalization of baseball, movies, boxing and post-service entertainment on Sundays. He understood the need for entertainment and relief from the work week and was in turn, elected mayor. For the people of New York at this time, he was their mayor. A man with the charisma that rivaled even the most celebrated stars of Broadway. And for a very long time, in the history of the city, he was well loved, and he provided an abundance of opportunity to the citizens of his city.

When New York restaurants, hotels and apartment buildings are torn down in the city today, the materials are being reused and recycled. This is a huge step for the city, huge in ideology and potentially grand in scale. Many buildings across the United States are being revamped with energy saving solar panels and water saving devices. And new construction is regulated by the same, if not more stringent standards. These green buildings have gained press and attention. This is an important aspect of construction, but is what is starting to gain importance and notice is the way in which buildings are torn down and the ways in which the materials are being disposed of. This addresses not only the concerns of energy management, but of waste management as well. Leading the way in the city of Manhattan, is of course the New York Botanical Garden. Long known as a staunch defender and protector of the environment, the Garden is in the process of renovation. Structures are being removed in order to improve the Garden on various levels. Waste from the demolition of buildings in the past has contributed to approximately sixty percent of the city’s solid waste. Concrete, metal, stone and glass account for over 35,000 tons being deposited in landfills each day. To cart the load, there are small dump-trucks taking the debris to transfer stations around the city. The debris is then put onto larger trucks and transported out of town.

By reusing materials on site, the pollution, from the trucks alone, is reduced. Not to mention what is not deposited into the already over-flowing landfills. Workers on construction sites all over the city, now organize and separate the debris into ‘piles’. Systematically categorizing materials for use in reconstruction, taking buildings down in way they were built, well…exactly opposite to the way they were built to be correct. This saves not only the environment, but money as well. Current calculations and observations estimate that over ninety percent of the materials are re-usable. This saves money, pollution related costs of local deconstruction, energy, materials and serves in minimizing trips to the transfer stations and land fills. Companies must pay to dump. Pay, to dump material that can be used to rebuild. The re-use of items saves more money and energy than the act of re-cycling. And in the city of Manhattan, it pays to rebuild, in many more ways than one.

I

The new edition of “The Celebrity Apprentice” returns to NBC on Sunday night. Donald Trump’s wanning series received a bump in popularity with last year’s celebrity edition. The network hopes that the success will continue with the new batch of celebrities.

Filmed in New York, the series follows sixteen celebrities as they compete in a series of challenges to raise money for charity. While the celebrity contestants compete on teams, there is still a weekly elimination and in-fighting and machiavellian maneuvers are part of what makes the show so popular. Seeing what the stars are willing to do to avoid hearing Trump say “You’re Fired” is, apparently, quite entertaining.

The first episode involves the contestants baking and selling cupcakes “without the help of their regular support system of agents, managers and personal assistants.” The celebrities competing for charity in this edition include Joan and Melissa Rivers, Scott Hamilton, Brian McKnight, Dennis Rodman, and Clint Black. Other contestants are Andrew Dice Clay, Tom Green, Annie Duke, Jesse James, Brande Roderick, Hershel Walker, Natalie Gulbis, Claudia Jordan, Tionne Watkins, and Khloe Kardashian.

Trump is a famous New York real estate tycoon. His properties include some of the fanciest New York hotel suites as well as resorts and casinos in New York and Atlantic City. He is an executive producer of the series along with Mark Burnett, Page Feldman, and Eden Gaha.
